People are more interested to talk about you than you talk about yourself. But how to get a satisfied customer to personally write reviews for you? The first step in getting a product or service reviewed is to realise that people don’t actually want to review it. The truth is, asking for reviews do not require any special tools or technology, just a pinch of commitment and dedications. Using these strategies, you can fight back on getting only negative reviews.
1. Simplify your reviews form
People refuse to write review because they are shy to share about they thought, lazy and they do not know how to write a review. Run a survey across your site to get customer feedback and then add this data into a comparison so people can see how you stack up against competitors. To write another quality review, you need to inspire them. Provides options likes ratings to make their life easier too.
2. Humanize your online store
As humanity gets tucked into more screen time, we must create meaningful media that connects our universal human experiences and emotions. Create a human identity in your online store that appears as someone who will assist and listen to them through the screen. This will satisfy their belongingness needs and encourage them to communicate more with you regarding their needs and opinion. Just like Siri on iphone or using the voice thread.
3. Make your customer a star
Who does not like to be Beyonce? When you do receive recommendations, highlight those customers who took the time to provide them. Ask if you can share their testimonials on your website and social media, and build the mention even further by including a picture of the person with the testimonial and proudly having them as your customer.
4. Do not fight on something you cannot win
At the end, any products without great characteristics do not really deserve to be talked about. If your competitor only provides waterproof cosmetics, add feature to your products with skin treatment cosmetics. Always fight oppositely. If you create something interesting it will naturally encourages reviews and debate.
5. Youtube Reviews
Visual captures the attention more than a text based review. You may keep a camera in your store/office and film the reviews directly and post it to your youtube channel as Favourites or playlist of customer reviews. Another idea is that by encouraging an influencer and customers especially the loyal ones to talk about how your products or services have helped them.
Besides sharing with the community how your products have benefits them, they may share with the customers on how to use your product. Hence, it creates needs for them to buy. That is 2 in 1. Sounds like a slam dunk to me!
6. Go for Google Alert and Social Mentions
They are actually tons of reviews that are specially written about your company. The problems is, they are everywhere such as personal blogs. Personal blogs are voluntary and honest. Catch them by setting up daily notifications through email on Google Alert and Social Mention.
These two can be used to find out about any reviews in a variety of applicable terms in order to keep track of brand mentions, including the brand, business name, product names plus the ‘review’ word at the end. That’s it. Oh! Don’t forget to ask the people who mentioned about your brand for permission to officially highlight them in your testimonial page.
7. Niche review sites
Okay this technique depends on what kind of industry are you in. But, you may not want to miss getting reviews on niche review sites. Restaurants, for instance, would love to receive great reviews from Trip Advisor and Travelocity, as many people get their first impression of a restaurant from these types of advisor site over the restaurant’s official website. Well, at least there will be one or two negative reviews that will make the positive reviews more authentic.
8. Local Search Directories
I like to talk about you and listen to what others talk about you. It is just more genuine like that. Local search directories such as Google Place, Yahoo Local or City Search let members in their networks to write reviews about local businesses. You may also use the reviews and share them on your testimonial page too.
Another best part is driving your customers on writing reviews on these sites will naturally increase your Google search traffic as your local business will come first with the most reviews. Found your million dollar asset now?
Good luck in applying the techniques that I suggested. If not all, maybe trying on 1 or 2 techniques is great enough in building your million dollar asset. However, these reviews have their dark side. You may not be able to control them especially reviews from local search directories or niche review sites as you open the door of the reviews to be negative.
